I owned a similar product back in the 60s when I lived on the east coast. Although the design of the new one is the same it is made of a much lighter metal. I've used it twice at different heats. Even on medium heat the potato got a burned spot so the next time I had the heat even lower and it took an hour. That's too long. My original baker never took longer than 40 minutes. I'm using an electric stove whereas previously I used gas. I wonder if that makes any difference?

This item is poorly made. The lid is too small. EVERY time I position the lid on the base, it pops up and slides off the base. This basic design or manufacturing flaw renders this item not worth purchasing.

My husband is now in heaven! He longed for the crispy-skinned baked potatoes that his mother used to make on top of the stove when he was a boy and now he too can make them thanks to this stove-top potato baker. Is it the best quality? No! It's light weight and the handle keeps loosening up. But with a twist of the screw driver we keep it together. It's impossible to clean so I keep it in a plastic bag because I don't want little critters to infest my kitchen. But I have a very happy husband because, truth be told, the potatoes come out delicious and the skin is crispy and I don't have to heat up the entire kitchen by turning on the oven for an hour for one or two potatoes! I'm glad we bought it.
